How to Sell Your Rolex Watch: A Step-by-Step Guide

To sell your Rolex watch, first decide between selling and trading it in, then start the valuation process by sharing the watch’s details and photographs.

Valuation depends on factors such as demand for the model, the watch’s condition and the documents you can provide. Knowing the process can help you prepare your watch for inspection and assess the offer you receive.

In this guide, you can learn about the difference between selling and trading in, the valuation steps, what to prepare and how to contact ART Jewellery & Watches.

The process of selling a Rolex watch

Selling or trading in?

If your next step is not to buy another watch, selling may be more suitable. If you want to change a piece in your collection, trading it in may be a better option. Deciding on your priority can make it easier to choose between the two.

How is a valuation carried out?

Valuation starts with the watch’s basic details and images, followed by an initial assessment, an in-person inspection and a final offer.

  1. Share the details and photographs. State the model and reference number. Include clear photographs showing the front, back and bracelet.
  2. Receive an initial assessment. An initial assessment is made based on the information and images you provide.
  3. Bring the watch for an in-person inspection. At this stage, following the initial assessment, the watch is inspected directly.
  4. Consider the final offer. After the in-person inspection, a final offer for your watch is provided.

What happens after the offer?

Before accepting the offer, clarify what it includes and ask any questions you may have. If you accept, you can discuss with the other party how the sale or trade-in will be completed.

Factors that affect your valuation

Model and demand: The model, production period and interest in that variant are taken into account during the assessment. Different versions in the same collection may attract different levels of interest.

Condition: Marks on the case, dial, bezel and bracelet, as well as the watch’s working condition, are inspected. Its overall condition may affect the assessment.

Box and documents: The box, warranty card and other documents provide information that supports the watch’s history. Letting us know what you have can help with the assessment.

Service history: Service records provide information about work carried out and the watch’s maintenance history. Share them if you have them.

Preparing for a valuation

Gathering the details and any accompanying items in advance makes it easier to assess the relevant points during the inspection.

For watch valuations, the case and dial’s authenticity, whether the movement matches the reference, bracelet and clasp details, and any service history are examined.

If a watch you are looking for is not on display, ART can source a piece on request through its network of collectors and watch traders. The website is a showcase for the collection, not an online shop. Visits are by appointment only, Monday to Saturday, from 10:00 to 19:00.
